Throughout history, injury has been a major cause of premature death. In modern America, injury takes a high toll and is the leading killer of our children, teenagers, and young adults. Yearly, almost 150,000 Americans die because of injuries. Of these, nearly 19,000 are children and teenagers. In addition, eight to nine million individuals suffer disabling injuries, with more than 300,000 of them suffering permanent disabilities.
This Sourcebook provides health information about common injuries and trauma injuries in the United States. Readers will learn essential information about injuries that occur at home, in the community, at work, and during transportation and recreation, as well as facts about emergency care.
